We really need a second photobook from her, it's coming close to four years since her first and only perfect PB "No Gazpacho" was released. That's a good question at the top and I'd like to say Yes but it's too close to call for who this year's #1 fave will be. In the years 2017 and 2019 could have flipped a coin to determine who number one would have been and either side would have been correct! But this is the first year there's been a three women battle for the top spot, #1 may not be determined until the the last day. In 2020 Marie was my number one by a large margin and for now would say she's in a tie for this year's top spot with one woman just slightly behind, should be an interesting list which will begin in the last week of November.
To date have seen Marie in ten dramas and a pair of TV movies. However hadn't seen her in any films but that's changed as I just viewed one last night and will be watching a second next week. This first film was titled "Shirai-san" aka Stare and was really looking forward to it, if I can get my act together will have a pair of posts for it this weekend. The film came out in January 2020 and while I've had it didn't find a subbed version until two days ago, will have info on how to get it in those two upcoming posts.
It's a horror flick which are my faves, Marie had the lead role playing the character of Mizuki. There are so many Japanese movies with a Curse(noroi) being the main story, this film's curse revolved around an eerie woman named Shirai-san who has been around for at least a century. It's not common but Shirai can mean 'Death Come', seeing this woman/ghost can mean an instant death. But only if you don't stare at her or are with another person, sounds like an odd way to save yourself. But if you didn't know those tricks somehow Shirai-san would.... burst your eyeballs!
Gruesome way to die and we only saw one small scene with a person getting killed that way, film could have been a bit gorier. The only way for a person to get the curse is to hear the story of how she originated, the key is whether the storyteller says her name or not. So won't give away too many spoilers and as mentioned hope to have the reviews this weekend. It was Marie's first horror role and as usual she did a solid job but the ending was really just so-so, few screenshots from the film.
The film came out on January 10, 2020 and have some pics from the premiere. Marie looked so fabulous at it and how I've missed seeing her at events, there was a mini birthday party as she turned 22 five days before, that means her 24th birthday will coming up on January 5th.
