Main Cast: Won't be adding too many characters in but instead may be removing many as already two of the main characters were killed at the end of the second show, they'll have their own section.
Ryoma Takeuchi as Hibiki Mamiya.... ~25 year old mechanic who lives with his girlfriend Kurumi and was about to propose when the disaster struck. At the time Hibiki was trapped in a tunnel and escaped after four days, eventually he joined up with a few other survivors.
Ayami Nakajo as Kurumi Ogasawara.... Hibiki's girlfriend and the pair went to high school together. She's in her second year of internship to become a doctor yet is still a bit too green. Began working with the Defense Forces in the third episode.
Marie Iitoyo as Kanae Hiragi.... Third year college student who survived the catastrophe by being stuck on an elevator with Shoko, her daughter and three others.
Sho Kasamatsu as Hiro Todoroki.... Went to high school with Hibiki but really can't stand the sight of him. Hiro is a detective whose superior Hongo was killed at the end of the second episode. That makes him in charge of the small group and he's such a mean, hateful young man. He broke away from the group at the end of the fourth show and is currently a prisoner.
Tamae Ando as Shoko Mihara.... A caregiver by trade and is the mother of Yuzuki, they were trapped in an elevator with Kanae with two others.
Naho Yokomizo as Yuzuki Mihara.... Twelve year old survivor who has asthma.
Makita Sports as Yohei Komoto.... Owner of a small moving company and ended being trapped in the apartment elevator with Kanae and thee others.
Kim Jae-Hyun as Yoon Min-Jun.... Immigrant from Korea who is working with Komoto, he too was trapped in the apartment elevator which saved six lives.
Hyunri as Yoon Jian.... Min-Jun's older sister who is working in Japan as a doctor and has been assigned to help with the outbreak working for the Self Defense Forces of Japan.
Kenishi Takito as Koki Shuto.... Head doctor for the Self Defense Forces.
Toshihito Kokubo as Tsuboi.... Also introduced in the third show and is the leader of the Sword group who are survivors too but for some reason want to kill the original group. The group wasn't seen in the fifth show but there's been no word of their demise.
Those who are now deceased:
Ryohei Otani as Daiki Hongo.... Police detective who was Todoroki's superior who has to always keep him in check. Hongo seemed like a really decent man but at the end of the second show he was shot, it appears as though he's dead but is he?
Takashi Sasano as Masaomi Uwajima.... Older man who was a novelist, he was bitten by a Zombie in the second episode and died at the end.
Kyoko Yoshino as Mia Nakagoshi.... Introduced in the third episode and is a very popular 23 year old TV actress. At first she seemed like a trustworthy survivor but in reality is working with a group named Sword. At the end of the third show she was killed along with her boyfriend who had become a Zombie/Golem.
Added in the links to the first four episodes above as I won't be talking all that much about what's taken place, would help to skim through them. Also have the ratings above and as you can see they were fairly consistent for the first four shows but did suffer a drop in the last two episodes. Kind of a mystery to me why most drama ratings are still on the low side. With so many people in Japan stuck at home you'd think they would be rising and not dropping.
Won't refer back to the last episode too often hut here's what the situation is. The group of six made it from Miura to Yokohama Bay hugging the shoreline to stay away from Zombies and the Defense Forces. However when they arrived at the bay it was surrounded by Zombies and there's no way the group could defeat all of them. Yokohama is still supposed to be a safe city, it probably is as the Zombies have no way of crossing the bay. So with no alternatives the group are heading back to Miura where the only safe location on the peninsula appears to be Camp Yokosuka. Perhaps safe from Zombies but not soldiers who have already killed one member and injured another.
This was the best show to date and it didn't hurt that finally Marie had a lot of screen time as her character is becoming a bit more important. Instead of staying on land the group has taken a boat out into the bay and plan on going in the back way to Camp Yokosuka as that may not be as protected as the main entrance. On the way the six stopped at the uninhabited island of Saruno to rest up, plan their next moves and possibly find some sort of supplies. To their surprise the island wasn't devoid of humans and a mystery was solved. On the island already was the Sword group and had a feeling we'd be seeing them again. Besides the camp it's the only safe place in the area as no Zombies have made it out that far and how could they?
At one time the two groups were bitter enemies but did come to an understanding and worked together to flee from the Defense Forces in episode four. But that didn't make them best friends and the leader of the group Tsuboi wasn't exactly thrilled to see the six survivors. What if they were followed was one concern plus they themselves had a very low supply of food and no medicine. But Tsuboi did realize his Sword people couldn't stay there for too long, Hibiki has talked him into traveling to the camp to get food, weapons, medicine and other essentials. But of course the main reason for Hibiki going to the camp was to find his girlfriend Kurumi who thinks he's dead. Tsuboi was a bit leery of going to an armed camp with just one gun plus a few swords and things, there's no way they can stand up to an army. But he's got to do something for his group and he's agreed to go but it's going to have to be an in and out mission.
So off they went, four of Hibiki's group and about the same from the Swords. Going in the back way was the correct decision as the group arrived at the camp undetected or at least at first. They were able to get some key supplies such as asthma medicine for Yuzuki in Hibiki's group. They easily could have left and gone back to the island safely but an incident took place at the half hour mark and you knew it was going to happen sooner or later. That's of Hibiki finally finding Kurumi though she disappeared in a matter of seconds, more on that later on. The group did have seven survivors, that seventh was the young detective Todoroki who had a falling out with Hibiki and the rest so he left them at the end of the fourth show. Todoroki made it to the camp disguised as a soldier and was able to make contact with Kurumi telling her that Hibiki was dead which of course was a lie. Shortly after he was nabbed and would have been killed right away but that's been put on hold by Doctor Shuto.
As that above was taking place Todoroki has managed to escape from his cell and his quest was to find Kurumi. We still haven't learned off their past but there's no doubt Todoroki has been in love with her since high school and the reason for his hatred towards Hibiki is that he stole her away.... we think. Didn't take long to locate Kurumi who was sleeping off the effects of being tested and is still in a drug induced state. Todoroki scooped her up and fled the hospital building but where could he run to with a disabled person with an army searching for them? There weren't many places but Todoroki did find an abandoned building which looked safe, we'll soon find out of course it wasn't. But besides the Defense Force soldiers hot on the trail of the two was Hibiki though he's lost race of the two. He told Kanae to return to the boat with the medicine and to sail off without him, there's no way she would do that but did return to possibly get Tsuboi's help which was a failure.
Hibiki's presence hasn't been unknown to Shuto as cameras have ben following his moves inside the buildings. But for the time being he didn't want to take any action and we'll soon find out why. Have to talk about Shuto for a spell as he's become the most important figure in this show. He truly is a mad doctor and that was backed up by an ex-doctor named Omaezaki. He's part of the Sword group and he was telling Shoko and her daughter about the man. He used to work with Shuto until the man's plans were bordering on insanity and have grown worse. From what Omaezaki mentioned and watching Shuto in action am kind of wondering if it may have ben him who created the Golem virus?! It's appearing that way though I could be wrong, if it is the case maybe it was an experiment that went awry. So a question or two could be is Shuto really working on a vaccine to get rid of the virus? If not then what are his plans for the Zombies?
This is the most key scene to date and it also confirmed Shuto's madness. That's him above with the captured Hibiki who Shuto does plan on killing but wanted him to know of his plans. Hibiki is 25 in age, fifteen years ago his mother died during a surgery which should have gone smoothly. It didn't as Hibiki's mother died on the operating table, of all people the doctor was Shuto!!!! He wanted Hibiki to know that his mother didn't die(!), for fifteen years he's been holding her captive for testing. That's kind of made me think that an experiment did go wrong and Shuto is actually the creator of the Golem virus. Hibiki's mother is like Kurumi as she has that special and rare gene that is immune to the virus but after fifteen years of experiments shouldn't the mother have died? This scene would have gone on for a tad longer and perhaps Hibiki would have met his death but there was a sudden power outage and Shuto had to rush back to the main lab.
That power outage was courtesy of Kanae and Yoon who wouldn't leave Hibiki behind. They couldn't persuade Tsuboi and his group to join them to no avail, for now am up in the air on whether they returned to the island on the boat. Somehow the two were able to locate Hibiki rather quickly and saved him from death as the colonel turned Zombie was about to bite Hibiki. Him being saved is not going to get Hibiki to leave the camp as he knows Kurumi is there and of course he has to save her. In a startling final ten seconds Hibiki went to check out if Shuto's story about his mother was true. Unfortunately it was and in the second screenshot down there's Hibiki's mother though really can't call her human any more. Just before that final scene Kurumi had discovered a little girl named Mana had been killed by someone. She had been bitten by a Zombie though was still half human, perhaps the vaccine could save her before the full transformation happens? Kurumi had become a bit close to Mana and her brother, in that bottom screenshot she vowed to kill the person who ended the girl's life. But in the pic above that we saw who did the deed and it was Hibiki(!), what's Kurumi going to do when she learns of that?
Whew, quite an intense and thrilling episode. Korean dramas can be a bit long at two episode a week but kind of wish that was the case for this show as I hate waiting so long for the next show. Four more episodes to go before the second season begins which has six shows. Not going to guess what'll happen in these final four but the time is late September 2019 so perhaps the next season will be present day and has the world been run over by Zombies? Wouldn't doubt if that's the case and will have the next pair of recaps in about two weeks.
